The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) helicopter that was observed flying at a low altitude over protestors who had converged in massive numbers at the “GotaGoGama” protest site at the Galle Face Green yesterday (13) was an observation flight that was gathering data on the ground situation, said SLAF Spokesman Group Capt. Dushan Wijesinghe. When  The Morning  questioned Wijesinghe as to why the SLAF was aerial patrolling the Galle Face protest site at such a low height, he said: “It was a normal observation flight around the City of Colombo in order to obtain information on the ground situation after imposing the curfew.” He also added that SLAF helicopters are permitted to fly at low heights during emergency situations. Video footage shared on social media also showed protestors running away from the low-flying chopper which they also accused of having hurled tear gas at the crowds last afternoon, in an attempt to intimidate them. Development officially started in 1983, and in the 1990s the anti-ship missile was tested on the Project 1234.7 ship. In 2002 the missile passed the whole range of trials and was commissioned.  It is reportedly a replacement for the  P-270 Moskit , and possibly also of the  P-700 Granit . The missile is carried in flight by  aerodynamic lift . The solid-propellant booster is located in the ramjet's combustion chamber and is ejected by the airflow after it has burned out. NASAMS

NASAMS  ( National/Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System ) is a distributed and networked short- to medium-range  ground-based  air defense system  developed by  Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace  (KDA) and  Raytheon .  The system defends against  unmanned aerial vehicles  (UAVs), helicopters,  cruise missiles ,  unmanned combat aerial vehicles  (UCAVs), and aircraft. NASAMS was the first application of a surface-launched  AIM-120 AMRAAM  ( Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile ).  NASAMS 2  is an upgraded version of the system capable of using  Link 16 , which has been operational since 2007. As of 2022   NASAMS 3  is the latest upgrade; deployed in 2019, it adds capability to fire  AIM-9 Sidewinder  and  IRIS-T SLS  short-range missiles and  AMRAAM-ER  extended-range missiles, and introduces mobile air-liftable launchers. The  Shenyang J-15  ( Chinese : 歼-15), NATO reporting name:  Flanker-X2 , also known as  Flying Shark  ( Chinese :  飞鲨 ;  pinyin :  Fēishā ), is a Chinese  all-weather ,  twinjet ,  carrier-based   fourth-generation [3]   multirole   fighter aircraft  developed by the  Shenyang Aircraft Corporation  (SAC) and the  601 Institute , specifically for the  People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force  (PLANAF) to serve on  People's Liberation Army Navy 's  aircraft carriers . An unfinished prototype  Su-33 , the T-10K-3, was acquired by SAC from  Ukraine  in 2001 and was said to have been studied extensively and  reverse-engineered , with development on the J-15 beginning immediately afterward. While the J-15 appears to be structurally based on the prototype of Su-33, the fighter features indigenous Chinese technologies as well as  avionics  from the  Shenyang J-11B  program. In February 2018, discussions about replacing the aircraft appeared in several Chinese media outlets includi

Xi'an KJ-600

The  Xian KJ-600  is a Chinese  twin-propeller ,  quad-tail ,  high-wing   military aircraft  designed for  cargo  and  airborne early warning and control , intended to be deployed on  Type 003 aircraft carriers  of the  People's Liberation Army Navy  from around 2024. The KJ-600 is a  high - straight wing  aircraft reportedly powered by a pair of  WJ-6   turboprop engine , and sports a  quad-fin   tailplane ,  tricycle gear  and a large dorsal  radome  suspected to be fitted with an  AESA -type system. A non-flying model was observed on a concrete mock-up carrier at  Wuhan  electronic testing facility, [1]  The mock-up has a striking external resemblance to the  aftward-folding   Grumman E-2 Hawkeye . The design is likely to be a case of  form following function , as the cancelled Soviet  Yak-44  shared the same layout. The aircraft made its  first flight  in August 29, 2020. Flight testing continued in 2021. A prototype in flight was spotted by aircraft observers above the testin

The  T-14   Armata  (Russian:  Т-14 «Армата» ; industrial designation "Ob'yekt 148",  Russian :  Объект 148 ) is a  next-generation  Russian  main battle tank  prototype based on the  Armata Universal Combat Platform . It has not yet entered serial production or been deployed with any units. The  Russian Army  initially planned to acquire 2,300 T-14s between 2015 and 2020. By 2018, production and fiscal shortfalls delayed this to 2025, before Russia announced the apparent cancellation of the main production run on July 30th, 2018. However, as of 2021, Russian state-owned  TASS  media agency claimed the Armata had been expected to begin serial production in 2022, with delivery of a test batch of 100 to the  2nd Guards Tamanskaya Motor Rifle Division  expected to begin in 2022. No evidence of this has yet emerged. The tanks were planned to only be officially transferred following completion of all state tests. Design [ edit source ] The Armata was designed over the course o
